The Rose Kennedy Greenway Conservancy is seeking an outstanding writer and project manager for the full-time position of Institutional Giving Manager. This newly created position offers an excellent opportunity for an early or mid-career fundraising professional to deepen their skills in the complete cycle of institutional giving and contribute to the care and programming of a premier public space.

The Conservancy’s four-member Development team currently raises $2M+ a year for the park’s operating and capital budgets. The majority of this philanthropic revenue comes from institutional donors–corporations, foundations, and government grants–and there is potential for substantial growth. This position will be the first in the Conservancy’s history dedicated solely to institutional giving, and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to have a significant impact. 

The Institutional Giving Manager will work closely with the Director of Development and Executive Director to organize and track all activities related to institutional giving. The Director of Development will provide strategic direction and mentorship. The Executive Director has robust corporate, foundation, and government connections and is highly engaged in fundraising. 

The Institutional Giving Manager will research funding opportunities and write proposals for all areas of the Conservancy’s work, which spans Horticulture, Maintenance, capital improvements, Programs, Public Art, and the Greenway Park Rangers who work with the homeless community. We are especially interested in candidates who have experience writing about social and spatial justice work, including public art and/or contemporary art.

Responsibilities:

• Manage and track the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and report on grant proposals and corporate sponsorships, including prospect research, proposal writing, grants and sponsorship management, and stewardship.

Research and Writing

• Develop a deep understanding of the work of the Conservancy. Build trusted relationships and regularly meet with staff across the organization to learn, brainstorm, and gather information that informs the creation of detailed and strategic proposals. Spend time on The Greenway and occasionally attend Conservancy public events. 
• Continuously research foundation, corporate, and government prospects for grants and sponsorships, and stay up-to-date on local and national trends and best practices in institutional giving.
• Structure, write, and submit compelling proposals.
• Work across departments to develop and format budgets and financial narratives for proposals and actual expenditures for reports. 
• Draft personalized gift acknowledgements for grants and sponsorships.

Management and Stewardship

• Working closely with the Director of Development and Executive Director, develop and monitor cultivation and stewardship plans for foundation and corporate partners. Maintain a personal portfolio of institutional donors and prospects, and build relationships with program officers. Organize and track plans for the portfolios of the Executive Director and Director of Development.
• Strategically select projects for the Grant Writer consultant, who is available approximately 20 hours per month. Meet with the Grant Writer as needed.
• Plan and coordinate site visits and meetings with foundation officers and corporate contacts, scheduling and briefing the Executive Director, Director of Development, and staff of other departments as appropriate.
• Using or adapting existing systems, coordinate across all Conservancy departments to ensure compliance with grant and sponsorship requirements. Support department heads in tracking use of restricted funds, provide ample lead time to departments on reporting requirements, and work with the Outreach department to ensure appropriate funder recognition across our communication platforms and in-park signage.
• Record meeting minutes for the Development Committee and/or Nominating Committee as needed. 

Events

• Draft sponsorship applications for the Gala on The Greenway and Glow in the Park.
• Attend donor events, including stewardship events (typically three a year) and the annual Gala on The Greenway and Glow in the Park to deepen relationships with institutional donors.

Qualifications: 

• Passion for the work of the Greenway Conservancy and the communities it serves
• At least 3 years of fundraising experience that includes grant writing
• Exceptional writing skills
• Highly organized and detail-oriented with strong project management skills
• Experience writing about social and spatial justice and/or contemporary art (any discipline) preferred

Candidates at the higher end of the salary range will also bring:

• A proven track record of cultivating and securing foundation, corporate, and government support 
• Familiarity with the Boston-area funding landscape
• Experience, comfort, and skill at managing up and across an organization
• Familiarity with federal grant systems (login.gov, grants.gov, SAM.gov, NEA-go, REACH)

Logistics

• This is a full time (40 hours a week) position with full benefits. 
• Work hours are generally Monday through Friday but flexibility is required, particularly for occasional evening fundraising events. 
• Work will generally take place indoors, but the position will require some time outdoors on The Greenway. 
• This is a hybrid position. Development staff work in the office a minimum of three days a week in order to collaborate with other departments and stay current on park and organizational matters.
• All incoming employees will be required to comply with the Conservancy’s COVID-19 policies. 

Compensation

• Salary range $60,000-$73,000
