What our volunteers have to say

These are just a few of the reviews that helped us earn this special recognition. We love hearing from our neighbors, park visitors and volunteers all year long. If you have kind words or helpful feedback to share about your park experience, we’d love to hear from you too!

Endless entertainment

“My husband and I moved into Boston in June of 2021 and immediately fell in love with The Greenway. I began volunteering in the Fall of 2021 and it brings me great joy to be giving back to The Greenway for all the happiness it brings me and my family. From the fountains, public art and swings – to the concerts, wine bar and beer hall, there is endless entertainment and enjoyment to be found in The Greenway!” (Reenie)

A calm, blissful oasis

“A super volunteer program, part of a super organization! In my second year with the program, I joined the plant phenology project, tracking growth of several dozen different plants in a two-block portion of The Greenway each week. Support from the volunteer coordinator, The Greenway botanical staff, the gardening staff, and other volunteers couldn’t be more gracious and ever-available. Communication between staff and volunteers is great. Not only do I get to commune with plants with which I was previously unfamiliar, but I [also] get to gather data that will prove useful in a variety of ways. I get to be part of this calm, beautiful oasis in the middle of the city, and I get to meet lots of nice people.” (Anonymous)

Restful and dynamic

“The Greenway is awesome! It is such a beautiful area – with a lot of variety to the sections, and so, something for everyone. Including a carousel! They have so many unique events and interesting art – often interactive sculptures. And the landscaping – using native plants organically managed – is gorgeous. It is a really beautiful space that can be both restful and dynamic. As a gardening volunteer I can attest to how much they care about and for the people that work and volunteer there. They treat us well, making us feel welcome and useful.” (Valerie)

What a gem for the city

“First of all, we love the Rose Kennedy Greenway! It is a green space that is enjoyed by kids, people on their way to work, eating lunch or just enjoying some quiet peace. In summer it is buzzing but I especially enjoy it in winter. My husband and I love and need to be outside so we joined a pruning class…how can you beat it..free, small group instruction led by professional arborists. They are the friendliest, nicest bunch, relaxed and even funny. It’s also a great way to meet other volunteers who enjoy being outside.

Pruning in winter is a special experience..we brave the elements together and develop a strong bond with the park; feel like it is our very own. What a gem for the city that can be enjoyed by residents and visitors on so many levels; just walking through or put on your garden gloves and work beside The Greenway staff!” (Anonymous)
