Greenway Park Rangers

Greenway Park Rangers ensure a safe and welcoming park experience for all visitors. Throughout the year, our Rangers patrol the 1.5-miles of Greenway parks, covering early mornings through evenings. The Conservancy partners with an overnight security team to cover hours when the park is closed to the public.

Greenway Park Rangers uphold the Conservancy’s commitment to provide a park environment that is welcoming to racially, culturally, and economically diverse residents and visitors. Their warm and caring presence directly impacts the community’s sense of belonging, comfort and safety by answering questions, providing resources, and enforcing park rules. They fulfill a unique and essential role that combines the disposition and expertise of a social worker, ambassador, and safety officer.

The Rangers also work closely with the unsheltered population who visit the park. Many have been on the streets for years, and through caring, non-judgmental daily interactions, Rangers get to know each person as an individual, address concerns, and ultimately connect people with the help they need.

Rangers also ensure all Conservancy staff and volunteers are trained on best practices for interacting with the public, as well as how to handle safety concerns. They coordinate training for staff and volunteers on topics including first aid, CPR, and NARCAN administration (a medication used to reverse opioid overdoses).

Next time you see a Greenway Ranger in the park, be sure to say hi and ask any questions you have about The Greenway – they’re always happy to help!

The work of the Greenway Park Rangers is made possible with major support from Citizens and Loomis Sayles. Additional support is provided by the M&T Charitable Foundation.
