Title: Social Media and Digital Marketing Intern

Type of position: Part-time (up to 20 hours/week), non-exempt, 

     May/June – August/September 2025

Reports to: Communications Manager

Salary: $18.75 hourly

Position Description:

The Greenway Conservancy, the non-profit responsible for the management and care of The Greenway, is seeking a highly motivated and reliable individual to join our team as a Social Media and Digital Marketing Intern. This is an opportunity to join a dynamic organization and contribute to building the awareness, branding, and social media strategy of a premier public space in the heart of Boston.  

 

The Social Media and Digital Marketing Intern will help the Conservancy connect with the diverse audience of visitors that come to experience The Greenway. The Intern will promote Greenway offerings and build support for the Conservancy through creation and distribution of written and visual content while maintaining brand consistency throughout scope of work. Independent projects may vary based on interests and experience of candidates.

Responsibilities:

  • Generate compelling and timely content for social media (Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn), blog, website, and weekly e-newsletter.
  • Capture real-time photo and video footage at Greenway, volunteer, and third-party events for use on social media accounts and website (i.e. video for Instagram live events, Instagram stories, reels, and other collateral).
  • Contribute ideas to the social media content calendar and brainstorm/plan content opportunities to grow and amplify The Greenway brand and initiatives, especially regarding the use of trending content to expand reach and engagement organically.
  • Pre-schedule recurring content on owned social media and assist in keeping the Conservancy website updated and responsive.
  • Assist with drafting press releases, media advisories, and content to announce Conservancy initiatives and events. 
  • Organize and grow Outreach contact lists. 
  • Research avenues to increase community engagement/park visitation and diversify audiences.
  • Provide assistance with digital asset management by maintaining the Conservancy photo library, signage templates, etc.   

 

Skills and qualifications:

  • Entry-level position for a person 18 years or older.
  • Demonstrated experience and skill with 
    • Written communications and social media;
    • Visual storytelling (still and video) and audio capture;
    • Cross-cultural sensitivity;
    • Multitasking and attention to detail;
    • Creative problem-solving.  
  • Preferred
    • Proficiency in content creation, including photography, video, and audio editing skills; 
    • Knowledge and experience with CapCut, Premier Pro, Lightroom, Photoshop Canva, Audition, or other photo/video/audio editing software with ability to use a mobile device and/or mirrorless or DSLR camera for content capture;
    • Interest in or knowledge of The Greenway, urban greening initiatives, environmental and social justice, open spaces, non-profits, and the City of Boston;
    • Bilingual or multilingual candidates, especially those with verbal or written proficiency in Spanish, Mandarin, or Haitian Creole are encouraged to apply.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to drive Conservancy vehicles in downtown Boston to evaluate, install, and move signage and represent the Conservancy at events. 

 

Logistics:

  • This is a part-time position, up to 20 hours per week, for a duration of 10-15 weeks, ideally beginning in May.
  • Hours are generally Monday through Friday. Ability to work evenings and weekend hours, with advanced notice, will be required.
  • Work will generally take place indoors, though the position will require some time on The Greenway.
  • We will work with interns to receive college credit if interested.

 

Compensation and Benefits

  • This is a paid position with sick time benefits. Compensation will be $18.75/hour.
