Topping Off the Harbor Pavilion
Last Friday members of the Greenway Conservancy staff joined the Boston Harbor Island Alliance and the National Park Service for the Harbor Park Pavilion “Topping Off” Ceremony celebrating the half way mark on construction completion. This new park pavilion is the first major public structure to be built on the Greenway. Tom Powers, Executive Director of the Boston Harbor Alliance, Bruce Jacobson, Superintendent of the National Park Service, and John Callahan, Executive of Turner Construction all spoke of the hard work, design challenges and collaboration among so many agencies and individuals to make the project happen. Typical to a topping off celebration, members of the project team and public were all asked to sign the concrete base of the building. A tree native to the Harbor Islands was affixed to the highest beam of the building for good luck.
The pavilion opening is scheduled for the spring of 2011. See The Boston Harbor Island Alliance website for more information on the Harbor Park Pavilion.
